The secrets of orange blossom

The secrets of orange blossom

The story of the flower our region is named after, and what makes it so precious to perfumers.

Orange blossom, or neroli, is one of the most precious raw materials in perfumery. The bitter orange tree came from Asia, took perfectly to the Mediterranean climate, and thrives here around Grasse.

A delicate harvest

Every spring, between April and May, the flowers are picked by hand, one by one, in the first hours of daylight — the moment their essential oil is at its richest. It takes about a tonne of flowers to obtain a single kilogram of orange blossom absolute.

Properties of its own

Beyond its beguiling scent, orange blossom has had a reputation for centuries as a calming flower. Orange blossom water was traditionally used to soothe, and to perfume pastries.

What we hold to

At Au Pays de la Fleur d'Oranger we carry on that tradition of excellence, working with the best local growers. Every bottle in our collection is a tribute to this singular heritage.
